The year 1959 marks a turning point in the history of Mercedes-Benz, at which point a fundamentally revised passenger car range was presented. Under the motto "The new six-cylinder - A class of its own," three completely redesigned models appeared as successors to the previous cylinder types: the 220 b, 220 Sb and 220 SEb models. Common to all models was the very spacious and elegant body, which was distinguished above all by the characteristic tail fins - a design element that was intended to shape the name for an entire model generation.
The new model series also set standards in terms of safety, as, for example, a passenger compartment with crumple zones at the front and rear was implemented for the first time. The models also received a padded dashboard and a steering wheel with padded plate as well as the wedge-pin door locks used for the first time in this form. A total of 344,751 sedans and chassis of model series 111 and 112 were produced at the Sindelfingen plant between 1959 and 1968.
The hand-assembled precision model in die-cast zinc with plastic parts is also replicated. The topic of authenticity is emphasized in the miniature model: The model is not only painted in the authentic color shade, but also features a true representation of all interior details in the high-quality decorated and flocked interior. Six parts of the model can be opened (doors, hood and tailgate). The 1:18 model is supplied in Mercedes-Benz Classic packaging, which includes a screwdriver and a glove. In this way, the model can be removed from the packaging without leaving fingerprints on the glazing or body.
